To support student athletes, their families, and our community, Studio H will be offering free rapid antigen testing to SHDC students and staff ages 13 and over. Individuals will receive weekly, in-house, COVID-19 tests to provide an extra measure of safety during practice and competition. Company Members will also be required to have an additional test no more than 24 hours before competitions. Under MI rules, without participating in weekly testing, dancers will not be able to take class, practice or compete.
Who does this apply to?
All individuals ages 13 - 19 participating in contact and non-contact athletic activities must test for SARS-CoV-2 on a weekly basis. Staff and coaches who come into contact with said athletes are also required to be tested weekly. At this time, MDHHS is requiring fully vaccinated individuals to be tested weekly as well.
Individuals who have recovered from confirmed COVID-19 in the past three months and remain symptom free may participate in athletics without testing if they can provide a letter from their doctor attesting that they fall into this category.

When does testing begin?
Mandatory testing start date is April 2, 2021. Studio H Dance Company is closed April 1, 2021 through April 11, 2021 for Spring Break. SHDC staff and dancers ages 13 and over are required to test before returning to the studio on Monday, April 12, 2021.
What happens if an individual tests positive?
Anyone who tests positive will be sent home immediately to self-isolate. If the individual can produce a negative PCR test within 48 hours of the positive antigen test and remains symptom free, they can return to class.
What does the testing process look like?
SHDC staff will guide individuals through the entire testing process.
Step 1: Before entering the testing area, individuals must have their temperature taken and apply hand sanitizer.
Step 2: Individuals will share their assigned personal identification code with present staff members. Personal identification codes will be assigned by the director at the first on-site test.
Step 3: SHDC staff will hand individuals a nasal swab to begin the test. Individuals should remove their mask at this time.
Step 4: Insert the nasal swab 3/4" into the first nostril. Slowly rotate the swab in a circular motion for 15 seconds.
Step 5: Repeat Step 4 in the second nostril.
Step 6: Individuals will hand the swab to a SHDC staff member and replace mask.
Step 7: Individuals should return to vehicles for 15 minutes to await test result.
Step 8: After tests have been read, SHDC staff will notify individuals or parent/guardian of test results via text.

How did Studio H Dance Company become certified to administer tests?
Studio H Dance Company has submitted their application for a CLIA certificate of waiver. A Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Certificate of Waiver (CoW) is a certification that allows a facility to legally examine a person through waived tests in order to assess health, diagnosis or determine treatment. The antigen tests provided by MDHHS require any facility that is administering these tests to obtain a CLIA waiver in order to legally perform the tests. Under the current pandemic, a non-certified facility will be treated as operating under a CoW while their application is being processed.
In addition to the application for a CLIA certificate of waiver, SHDC staff has completed the full MDHHS training series on antigen testing.
